Community congratulates Matriculants for doing well
Cosmo City’s community members congratulated the Matriculants of 2018 for their outstanding performance in the NSC Examinations.
At least 800,000 full-time and part-time students throughout the country sat to write the exams across 7,000 education centers last November. On 3 January, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced that the matric class of 2018 achieved a pass rate of 78.2%.This pass rate is an improvement on 2017 which was 75.1%. All provinces achieved a more than 60% pass rate, with Gauteng taking top spot as the best-performing province.
All schools in Cosmo City achieved a more than 80% pass rate, with Meridian Cosmo City maintaining its 100% record. Blue Eagle High came second with 94.7%, followed by Cosmo City Secondary 1 with 91.5 %. Far North Secondary and Sigodipola Secondary achieved 87.3% and 83.1% respectively.
“From the office of the council, we are extremely happy for the 2018 Matriculants,” said ward 100 councillor Mapula Mosito. “We would like to say congratulations to Blue Eagle High school for becoming the top public school achiever. We are happy for Meridian Cosmo City and other schools as well, they have made us proud.”
Students who could not achieve what they expected, the councillor said, should go back and work hard and make sure they get the matric certificate as it is important.
Councillor Mosito also thanked the school principals, teachers and School Governing Bodies (SGBs) and parents for their commitments to assist the students.
The parents who spoke to the Chronicle wished pupils well in their future endeavors.
“The future of this community is bright,” said Sinethemba Dube. “We hope they continue with their studies and bring change in the community and in the entire country.”
Mashila Segkala, who is a former student at Sigodipola, achieved six distinctions in Mathematics, Accounts, Economics, Life Orientation, Sepedi, and Physical Science.
“It was through hard work and perseverance,” she said. “I was not so confident during the exams, but I managed to score six distinctions. I am very happy and I want to go and study Actuarial Science.”
She said it is possible to pass mathematics and science subjects with flying colors if you work hard. 5:G̜ i
