Duo appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition

Two Diepsloot men appeared in Randburg Magistrate Court on 10 December facing the charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

The 24 and 35-year-old suspects have been remanded in custody, according to Diepsloot police spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula.

The two suspects were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, 8 December 2021, the captain said. “Following a tip off from a community member, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested in extension 13 for possession of unlicensed firearm in extension 13. The suspect failed to produce a licence to possess a firearm and was arrested as a result.”

The 24-year-old was arrested in extension 1 on the same day, Captain Mathebula said. “The police received information about a male suspect alleged to be dealing in drugs. On arrival at the suspect's address, they conducted a search and allegedly found a firearm in his possession.”

Meanwhile, Army Ncube (21) who has since appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court on Monday 6 December 2021, was arrested in extension 8 after he was allegedly found in possession of unlicensed firearm.

“This brings the total of illegal firearms recovered in a space of one week to three, which will have a major impact on reducing circulation of illegal firearms in the community,” Captain Mathebula said.
