Man arrested for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old
Diepsloot police arrested a 27-year-old man on 7 June for allegedly kidnapping a sixteen-year-old girl before sexually harassing her.
The girl was reported missing on Saturday 7 June, according to Diepsloot police spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula.
“The police, alongside community members, began to search for the missing girl,” he said. “However, on Sunday 07 June, the victim returned home and alleged that she was raped and kidnapped by a taxi driver. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping. He will appear in the Randburg magistrates court soon.”
In another development, Captain Mtahebula said Diepsloot police are busy with inroads to curb the proliferation of firearms.
It is our dedication and determination to minimize the use of illegal fire arms,” he said. “On Wednesday morning, 03 June 2020, police members arrested two suspects, aged 24 and 30, on separate locations for possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition.”
Last month, another two illegal firearms were recovered in Diepsloot, which makes it four recoveries of illegal firearms.
“These successes would not have been possible without the assistance of community members who continue to provide the police with tip-offs. We urge the community to continue playing an active role in the fight against crime by reporting all criminal activities to the police.
Diepsloot station commander, Brigadier Koena Moichela, commended the members for their hard work and encouraged them to continue clamping down on crime in the community. Report all criminal activities at your nearest police station or crime stop number on 08600 10111.
