Muldersdrift shooting: Wife of the victim posts heartfelt message on Facebook as husband remains in hospital
“We pray for all the physicians, nurses, and healthcare providers involved in his care,” wrote Chantal Cloete on Facebook, praying for her husband Len Cloete who was shot in the head during a squabble with the police at a Muldersdrift hotel last month.
“Please grant the medical team wisdom to know the best course of action to relieve his pain and promote healing. Please comfort him in this difficult time and we ask that you would ease his pain and give them hope and peace.”
A video, which was widely circulated on social media shows Len Cloete trying to disarm a policewoman, swearing at the other officers, insulting them and continuously daring them to shoot him. One of the policemen shot Cloete in the head and police took him to hospital under guard.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said investigations were still ongoing into the shooting of Cloete.
Ipid spokesperson Grace Langa, on Tuesday said the victim remained in hospital and that there was still no reason for an arrest. Langa added that since the discharge of a firearm by a police officer caused severe injury, a case of attempted murder had to be investigated as Cloette was admitted to hospital and is reportedly in a coma.
