Orlando Pirates officially launches a branch in Cosmo City
Jam-packed excitement prevailed at Multipurpose Centre on 14 July as Orlando Pirates officially launched a branch for supporters in Cosmo City.
The branch, which was initially established in 2015, saw hundreds of Buccaneers coming together to witness the official launch.
“In Cosmo City, we are now recognized by the Orlando Pirates office,” said Gigi Jacob Phajane, the chairman of Orlando Pirates Cosmo City Branch.
The decision to form a Cosmo City Branch came in early 2015 on a Soweto Derby day, said Phajane. “On one weekend, Bophelo Sinah Ramalema met Amza, Nthabiseng, Selina and SamaPro. They then decided to form a branch. Later on more members joined .Then a committee was formed that was led by Josta Kgopa. Kgopa was the first chairman of the branch until 2017 when the new committee was elected.”
After the branch was formed, Phajane said, recognition from the Orlando Pirates branch was the only thing left.
Now that the branch has been officially launched, Phajane noted: “It means a lot to the community. Now they have a branch, which is going to represent them. There is a committee within the branch to deal with any concerns supporters may have.”
He added that the launch also means that supporters will have an access to transport to go to stadium games or to Orlando Pirates events organized by the Branch.
“That will help in reducing exploitation of supporter’s resources whereby people pay higher transport fares whenever they go to the stadium.”
Phajane said launching the branch just before the season starts was an amazing thing. “It was very important,” he said, “because we felt it will help boost the number of our members in the branch, in that way we increase our numbers in supporters going to the stadium.
