Sean Challenge Tournament rocks Kyasands Informal settlement
Football lovers in Kyasands Informal settlement had a weekend to remember on 23 February 2019 when Bridgetown Rovers hosted a one -day Sean Challenge tournament at Lions Sporting Grounds and Bridgetown Grounds
Sean Challenge is an annual tournament organised by Moses Mathebula as a way to honor the late and former Bridge Town Rovers coach Sean Dokoza.
Sixteen football teams participated in the tournament. Eight of the football teams competed in the under15 group, and the other eight participated in the under17 group.
Lions FC won the under 15 football tournament while Smart Boys were the runners up. The Lions FC dominated during the tournament as they defeated Golden Drifters in penalties to become the under17 champions.
Sean Challenge awarded all the Lions FC soccer team winners trophies and medals.
The founder of Bridgetown Rovers founder Moses Mathebula, who also organised the tournament, said their aim was to create awareness of sports as a means of social up-lifting and the need for improved sports facilities to benefit the community.
Karabo of Smart Boys and Azola of Golden Drifters were named under15 and under 17 players of the tournament, respectively.
“We are very thankful to all the teams that participated in the tournament,” Mathebula said.
An elated Lions FC coach Monwabisi Jini said it was a great honor for his team to prevail in the tournament.
“It absolutely gave us the competition we needed,” Jini said. “We have made history because it was our first time to win double. We are very excited.”
Jinni added that the tournament served as a very good preparation for their upcoming football season.
“The spirit is very high at the camp, and the boys strongly believe that we will go all the way and win the league.” n":"1,
